Coding Workflow

Coding Workflow Screenshot

AbbaDox features an integrated coding workflow that provides coders with immediate access to patient encounter documentation and an interface for entering and submitting CPT, ICD9 and modifier codes for billing purposes.

The AbbaDox coding workflow:

  • Removes the need to manually distribute documents to coders – whether in-house or remotely located – by creating a single point of reference.
  • Restricts access to encounter documents, including the transcribed reports, scanned documents and lab work based on role-based security protocols.
  • Allows coders to review historical documents in the patient chart, as needed.

In addition, AbbaDox can produce several reports based on the coding information including patient encounters by coder, date of service, date coded, and CPT, ICD-9 or modifier codes.

The coding workflow is customizable by facility and features four coding bins:

Waiting to be Coded

Contains all documentation for the coders to review and code. The relevant documents are displayed and the coder enters the appropriate codes into the same interface. Coders have the option of submitting completed work or, if there are any questions, place them for further review. When necessary, coders have the option to attach a digital note with specific concerns/issues they may have. Completed codes can be submitted directly to the billing system or passed to the Waiting Coding Approval bin, depending on facility’s preference.

Waiting Coding Review

A bin for patient encounters requiring clarification or additional information. When selected, a note window automatically opens to display comments made by the coder. A note can either be sent back to the coder or the administrative staff can enter their own codes and submit for billing.

Waiting Coding Approval

This is an additional workflow bin available for facilities that want to review all coding efforts prior to submission to third-party billing software.

Coding Completed

Codes completed within the last 24 hours.
